Getting Hit On

Getting Hit On – When You Don’t Want to Be Hit On

It’s happened to almost every women. You walk into someplace – a hotel lobby, restaurant, a lounge – and get ‘The Stare’.

You might give a brief smile back or ignore. Sometimes it doesn’t

matter. The guy (or now woman) seems persistent. They offer to

sit and talk – buy you a drink – whatever.

You could have run into a lonely traveler who is overly friendly. But maybe it’s someone a little obsessive – or worse.

Do not give any indications of encouragement. Immediately make

CAREFUL plans to depart. You can’t just leave because they could follow you outside – to your room – wherever.

It’s crazy to have to think about it – but maybe you’ve encountered

‘Jack (or Jackie) the Ripper’.

Remember, in certain cultures, abuse can be presumed to be the woman’s fault by managers, police, etc.

How have other women handled similar situations?

Body Odor can be a real turn-off to others.

In a restaurant the solution can be relatively simple.

Ask to be reseated somewhere else.

In an airplane, it’s tougher unless there are empty seats.

Problem: In some cultures, BO is normal.

How do people handle the situation?
